Crowd Strike BSOD

Yesterday evening, our devs could no longer push to Azure DevOps services. This later snowballed into an AWS outage.

This morning, the Wall Street Journal and other outlets are reporting global outage at hospitals, airports, banks, retail stores and more. The delay and time to respond will play out over the couple of days and weekend as IT sys admins rush to delete the file and restart VMs.

Now it has been confirmed that the cause of the blue screen of death and Windows virtual machines failing around the world was a Crowdstrike agent deployment. Specifically, caused by their Falcon Sensor.

Crowdstrike provided a brief cause but the coming days should unravel more of what’s happening behind the scenes.

Ultimately, did Crowdstrike fail to test the latest update in a test lab environment before deploying at the end of the week?

Ironically, a reddit user King_Kunta__ timed his evaluation of Crowdstrike perfectly when he posted about the company’s fundamentals with regards to the technology.
